Utah Jazz – Deron Williams

The Utah Jazz are in a precarious position when it comes to their core. They have either a young, developing player or a high quality veteran at every position, meaning that their likelihood to grab a major free agent is unlikely, but that shouldn’t stop them from attempting to boost their roster.

Deron Williams is the perfect candidate to do so. As a point guard, he plays the position that is the most questionable, and he also makes a return to the organization that drafted him. Williams would likely be inserted into the starting unit, while Dante Exum would make a slow return back into the rotation. The Jazz had trouble facilitating offense many times last season, and they need a true facilitator to set the table for Gordon Hayward, breakout guard Rodney Hood and Derrick Favors.

The Jazz aren’t finished rebuilding, but that doesn’t mean they can’t add a veteran who would be successful surrounded by a few players who could take pressure off of him. Quin Snyder’s team is already sound defensively, and while they would be even better defensively with Exum as the starter, they need to sacrifice those extra couple of possessions defensively in order to make an offensive jump.

The team finished 27th in the NBA in assist ratio at 15.2 percent, and improving that number with a quality distributor like Williams would help the Jazz make the jump into the playoffs.
