San Antonio Spurs – Boban Marjanovic

The San Antonio Spurs have very few holes in their roster, especially if Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili end up returning for ANOTHER season.

That doesn’t mean that the Spurs can’t get better internally though, and the one piece that could look to do so is the jolly giant, Boban Marjanovic. The 7’3″ behemoth played sparingly this season behind the likes of Duncan, LaMarcus Aldridge, David West and Boris Diaw, but both Duncan and West have player options, meaning that a spot could reasonably open up in the rotation.

When Boban did play, he looked like a player with immense potential to be unlocked. He may already be 27 years old, but he had 22 points on nine shots in the season finale against the Dallas Mavericks, including 12 rebounds, two blocks and just one turnover. Boban struggled at times with mobility in the fast paced NBA, but with a year to adjust, he is just as likely to break out playing under Gregg Popovich, and it would only be fitting if he turned into a quality rotation player under Pop.

The Spurs have been rumored to be looking at Kevin Durant to join the roster in free agency, but it would involve gutting the roster. Focusing on re-signing a potential rotation player to replace Duncan down the line would be a wiser, Spurs-type move to keep the roster that won 67 games intact.

Boban Marjanovic, tall jokes aside, can make a huge impact joining the Spurs’ rotation permanently next season.
