NBA: 25 Worst Individual Seasons Of The 3-Point Era
By Phil Watson
Corey Brewer was coming off consecutive national championships at Florida and had just been crowned the Final Four’s Most Outstanding Player two months before he was taken seventh overall by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the 2007 NBA Draft.
This would be the Timberwolves team that just traded franchise icon Kevin Garnett to the Boston Celtics and were embarking upon a rebuild.
Brewer started 35 games at the small forward spot for Minnesota that season and played in 79 in all, getting almost 23 minutes a night for a team that went from bad (32-50) to worse (22-60).
Brewer’s per game numbers looked like those of a kid in way over his head:
Age | Pos | G | GS | MP | FG | FGA | FG% | 3P | 3PA | 3P% | eFG% | FT | FTA | FT% | TRB | AST | STL | BLK | TOV | PF | PTS |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
21 | SF | 79 | 35 | 22.8 | 2.3 | 6.2 | .374 | 0.1 | 0.5 | .194 | .382 | 1.1 | 1.4 | .800 | 3.7 | 1.4 | 1.0 | 0.3 | 1.1 | 2.4 | 5.8 |

And his advanced numbers:
G | MP | PER | TS% | 3PAr | FTr | ORB% | DRB% | TRB% | AST% | STL% | BLK% | TOV% | USG% | OWS | DWS | WS | WS/48 |

But Brewer did get better, playing a bit part for the Dallas Mavericks late in the 2010-11 season to earn a championship ring and spending time with the Denver Nuggets before returning to Minnesota in 2013. He was dealt to the Houston Rockets in the middle of the 2014-15 season, helping them to the conference finals, and re-signed with them to a three-year deal in July 2015.
