PG. 1979-80 Utah Jazz. Duck Williams. 25. player. 118. Experience: 1st year, Notre Dame

The New Orleans Jazz had drafted Notre Dame’s Duck Williams in the fifth round in the 1978 NBA Draft, but he was among their final cuts in training camp and did not play in the NBA in 1978-79.

The Jazz brought Williams back for another look, signing him as a free agent in July 1979 after their move to Salt Lake City and he made the club, playing 77 games and averaging 23.3 minutes a game in a hodge-podge of point guards that included Robert Smith, Brad Davis and Mack Calvin.

The Jazz had won 26 games in their final season in New Orleans and were no better in their first turn in Utah, finishing 24-58—matching the Golden State Warriors for the second-worst record in the NBA.

Here are Williams’ per game stats:

Williams was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers for future considerations in October 1980, but was cut and never heard from on the NBA scene again.
