Wilson Chandler – Age 28 – Guaranteed $11.2 million

Wilson Chandler is an interesting case. He will be 29 on May 10. He has actively said he loves Denver and for an American player who experienced the bright lights of New York City during his time with the Knicks, that’s a huge asset for the organization to pitch to free agents.

He wants to win a championship and the Nuggets have him on a guaranteed deal for three more years. That being said, his health is quickly making the contract difficult to justify. He missed the entire season after a second hip surgery and he has missed large chunks of time in previous seasons as well, putting the Nuggets in a difficult position.

His trade value for other NBA teams is low due to the injuries, but when healthy he’s the ideal backup small forward. He has the size to mix it up with power forwards, the speed to stay in front of some shooting guards, the athleticism to get into the paint quickly on offense and the range to open up opportunities for others.

Instead of looking to replace him, it might be wise to simply look for younger players to be injury insurance – 80 percent.
