Jameer Nelson – Age 34 – Guaranteed $4.5 million

Jameer Nelson has expressed an interest to return to the Nuggets in a backup role, as long as he can receive consistent minutes. This is contingent on the decision regarding Augustin, who is a better player and younger than Jameer.

Committing to $4.5 million of Jameer while re-signing Augustin would not be the best use of the cap room the Nuggets currently have, especially if Nelson becomes unhappy riding the pine as the third-string point guard.

The likely course of action is that the Nuggets will retain one of their veteran point guards and either Augustin will be allowed to sign somewhere else or Nelson will be traded. Nelson is still a capable player who experienced shooting woes due to over use. Hopefully he can return to form in a lesser role, because he’s more likely than Augustin to be back – 55 percent.
