2016 NBA Playoffs: Each Team’s Week 1 MVP
Oklahoma City Thunder: Russell Westbrook
Kevin Durant is averaging a healthy 26-7-3 stat line so far in the postseason, but we can’t ignore his 7-for-33 dud in Game 2 that cost the Oklahoma City Thunder a game. Russell Westbrook wasn’t great in that game either, going 8-for-22 from the field, but his series averages of 23.0 points, 10.7 assists, 6.3 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game are too significant to ignore.
Westbrook has posted a double-double in each game of the series thus far, and believe it or not, he’s been far more efficient with his shooting than KD. His 45.3 field goal percentage trumps Durant’s mark of 34.2 percent, as does his three-point percentage of 31.3 compared to KD’s woeful 26.9 percent shooting from deep.
Durant’s miserable Game 2 obviously skews the numbers, but Westbrook has been unleashing his lightning in a bottle act for the majority of the series, setting up teammates for easy buckets at a league-leading rate. “Not a true point guard,” my ass.
