2016 NBA Draft: Brandon Ingram Player Breakdown
Key Weaknesses
Brandon Ingram’s greatest weaknesses are a contradiction to his most vital of strengths. Some are understandable and forgivable, while others defy the logic created by the virtues listed on the previous slide.
If they aren’t corrected, however, they will hinder Ingram from ever approaching his elite potential.
Ingram has the size and length to be an impact player, but he’s also a 196-pound small forward. He’s far too thin to go to war with players such as Paul George, LeBron James, or Kawhi Leonard, and will not have positional versatility until he bulks up.
Ingram’s age, 18, makes his weight forgivable, but it’s still a critical issue for a prospect—no matter their NBA Draft stock.
The other issue is far more puzzling and severe. He’s an outstanding shooter, but he struggles to finish against length due to his inability to turn the corner as quickly as he must, and shot an abysmal 68.2 percent from the free throw line—a shocking number when one considers how well he shoots in all other areas.
Ingram has elite potential, but he needs to improve his consistency at the free throw line and add significantly more muscle to his frame.
