Charlotte Hornets: 5 Keys To Turning The Series Around
5. Starvin’ Marvin Must Feed
The first two games of the postseason have been brutal to watch for the Marvin Williams advocates out there who were just getting enough momentum on their side to make a compelling case for Charlotte’s stretch-4. As the former No. 2 pick of the 2005 NBA Draft, Williams has always been criticized as a “draft bust” who never lived up to his potential.
This season, Williams had found perhaps the coziest role of his career with the Hornets, averaging 11.7 points and 6.4 rebounds per game in 81 starts, all while shooting 45.2 percent from the floor and 40.2 percent from three-point range. Unfortunately, his performance through the first two games of this series has been more in line with that “draft bust” label.
So far against Miami, Williams has tallied a grand total of two points on an anemic 1-for-17 shooting. He’s missed all four of his three-pointers, bricked both of his two free throw attempts and is a staggering -50 through the first two games. For a player who had been feasting during the regular season, he’s turned into a complete Starvin’ Marvin.
For the Hornets to have any chance in this series, they’ve got to get the same Marvin Williams they enjoyed all season long. Not many players have shot the ball well for Charlotte so far, but his struggles stand out the most.
