The Admiral took no orders nor prisoners in his debut. The NBA Playoffs might’ve been a new concept for David Robinson, but they didn’t shake him any. He walked into the series like he owned the place and he did just that.
Alex English and Fat Lever were helpless, they could not match Robinson’s output or efficiency. Robinson who shot 11-for-20 percent in Game 1 and 59 percent in the series, had his way with the Denver Nuggets bigs. The Spurs won Game 1 in a blowout, ultimately closing the night 16 points up.
The Nuggets never recovered, losing the next two games. It was a clean sweep. In the final game, there was no foot being taken off the pedal–Robinson put up 26 points, 16 rebounds and five assists. Long before Tim Duncan, Robinson gave Spurs fans something to cheer for.
