5. Minnesota Timberwolves: Kris Dunn, Providence Friars

Position: Point Guard

Age: 22 (3/18/1994)

Height, Weight, Wingspan: 6’4″, 205 pounds, 6’9″

Slash Line: .442/.340/.689

Season Averages: 33.0 MPG, 16.4 PPG, 6.2 APG, 5.3 RPG, 2.5 SPG, 1.3 3PM

The Minnesota Timberwolves have one of the best facilitators and defensive playmakers in the NBA in point guard Ricky Rubio. Unfortunately for Minnesota, Rubio can’t seem to score from anywhere on the court—something evidenced by his career field goal percentage of .368.

Due to Rubio’s overwhelming inefficiency, it’s hard not to view Kris Dunn as the perfect prospect for the Timberwolves to select at No. 5 overall.

Dunn does much of what Rubio does, possessing elite potential as both a facilitator and on-ball defender. He’s a much better finisher and shooter, however, which is something that would help open the floor for the Timberwolves.

Dunn and Rubio are also both 6’4″ point guards, which further displays how ideal a signing this would be.

There may be some players with a higher ceiling than Dunn, but he’s the perfect player for Minnesota. He’ll help create shots for Andrew Wiggins and Karl-Anthony Towns, a la Rubio, but will also space the floor with his 3-point jump shot.

In turn, teams would have a significantly more difficult time sealing off Wiggins’ driving lanes and going under screens against the pick-and-roll.
