Assuming the Los Angeles Lakers hold onto the No. 2 overall selection, this comes down to a question of who’s available. Whomever remains after the Philadelphia 76ers choose between Brandon Ingram and Ben Simmons is who the Lakers will draft.
In this scenario, the Lakers luck out and land Ingram.
Los Angeles already has two building blocks in point guard D’Angelo Russell and power forward Julius Randle. Both have high ceilings with the ball in their hands, all the while flashing the abilities to be positive contributors in off-ball situations.
Thus, adding Simmons could subsequently stunt their growth due to the fact that he needs the ball in his hands to be successful.
Ingram, meanwhile, is an outstanding shooter with legitimate 3-point range and a Kevin Durant-like stroke. He’s also a committed defender who works his tail off and, by all accounts, is an outstanding teammate.
Simmons may be the superior talent from a pure upside perspective, but Ingram is the perfect fit for the Lakers.
