17. Memphis Grizzlies: Wade Baldwin IV, Vanderbilt Commodores

Position: Point Guard

Age: 20 (3/29/1996)

Height, Weight, Wingspan: 6’3″, 195 pounds, 6’10”

Slash Line: .430/.414/.796

Season Averages: 30.3 MPG, 14.3 PPG, 5.2 APG, 4.0 RPG, 1.2 SPG, 1.3 3PM

This is the second major turning point of the 2016 NBA Draft. The Memphis Grizzlies have a chance to draft the player who could be the next Zach Randolph in Domantas Sabonis, but they could also lose point guard Mike Conley to free agency.

This comes down to the trio of Wade Baldwin IV, Demetrius Jackson and Sabonis.

As perfect as Sabonis developing behind Randolph would be, the Grizzlies need to address the possibility of Conley leaving through free agency. Even if he does return, Memphis needs a player who can solidify the second unit as a scorer and playmaker.

Jackson is higher on my big board, but Baldwin IV’s combination of size, length and accuracy as a shooter make him the pick.

Baldwin IV has a tantalizing physical build at 6’3″ and 195 pounds with an overwhelming 6’10” wingspan. He’s a fearless shooter with deep 3-point range, and is one of the best facilitators in this draft class, ranking No. 35 in the country in assist rate in 2015-16.

Sabonis would be an excellent fit, but Baldwin is a project player whom Memphis must take and develop.
