The Utah Jazz have a frontcourt with tremendous potential in Derrick Favors, Rudy Gobert, Gordon Hayward, and Trey Lyles. That leaves the backcourt as the area of weakness that must be addressed.
In a battle of upside versus stability, this comes down to point guard Demetrius Jackson and wing Furkan Korkmaz.
Jackson would provide a necessary impact at point guard as Dante Exum returns from injury and Trey Burke recovers from being benched. Korkmaz could be the impact player at shooting guard who provides explosive athleticism and a smooth shooting stroke.
Both players could be of immense value, but it’s Korkmaz who’s the selection due to Exum’s pending return to the rotation.
Jackson is the better short-term option, and he may even become the superior player. Exum is the team’s future at point guard, however, and any alternative option will likely be found in free agency.
What can’t be found in free agency is a talent as young and moldable as Kormaz, and that makes him the perfect player for Quin Snyder’s system.
