2016 NBA Mock Draft: Every Team’s Ideal Fit
11. Orlando Magic: Skal Labissiere, Kentucky Wildcats
Position: Center
Age: 20 (3/18/1996)
Height, Weight, Wingspan: 7’0″, 216 pounds, 7’1.5″
Slash Line: .517/.000/.661
Season Averages: 15.6 MPG, 6.5 PPG, 3.1 RPG, 1.0 ORPG, 1.6 BPG
The Orlando Magic have high-ceiling players at all five positions, with Elfrid Payton and Victor Oladipo in the backcourt, Evan Fournier and Mario Hezonja at the 3, Aaron Gordon at power forward, and Nikola Vucevic at center.
If there’s one thing missing from the Magic’s roster, it’s a big man who can control the defensive interior.
One might argue that Gordon has such potential, but he’s more of a competitive team defender than a rim protector. Vucevic is an offensive ace, but he lacks the ideal level of defensive consistency to be held in such regard.
Due to the fact that Vucevic is under contract for three more seasons, gambling on Skal Labissiere makes sense for the Magic.
The Magic’s current crop of assets would enable Labissiere to spend at least one full season committing to his body. He can also work to solidify his jump shot, which is as fundamentally impressive as any big man’s in the 2016 NBA Draft.
Labissiere is a tantalizing talent with limited immediate value, and that makes him the perfect prospect for Orlando to take on at this current juncture.
