10. Milwaukee Bucks: Jakob Poeltl, Utah Utes

Position: Center

Age: 20 (10/15/1995)

Height, Weight, Wingspan: 7’1″, 242 pounds, 7’1″

Slash Line: .656/.000/.689

Season Averages: 30.4 MPG, 17.6 PPG, 9.0 RPG, 2.8 ORPG, 1.9 APG, 1.6 BPG

The Milwaukee Bucks attempted to build the future of the organization with center Greg Monroe. The harsh reality of Monroe’s arrival is that he lacks the defensive proficiency to anchor Milwaukee’s interior in the manner he needs to.

There are other options at No. 10 overall, but Jakob Poeltl makes the most sense if Milwaukee is seeking immediate value.

Poeltl is one of the best defensive big men in this draft class as a rim protector who keeps his man off the glass and disrupts the pick-and-roll. He’s not an elite athlete, but he’s dramatically improved his fundamentals on both ends since coming to Utah.

Poeltl isn’t as consistent in the post as Monroe, but he’s strong enough to place a high emphasis on his vastly superior defense.

Poeltl has good touch around the basket, and is a strong asset in operating the pick-and-roll. He’s 7’1″ with a matching wingspan, which continues the development of Milwaukee’s elite size at virtually every position.

Poeltl is a defensive-minded big man who crashes the boards, finishes around the basket, and continues to expand his range. He’s an excellent fit.
