The Sacramento Kings are in a very interesting position at No. 9 overall in the 2016 NBA Draft. DeMarcus Cousins is committed to the organization and Willie Cauley-Stein had a generally positive impact as a rookie, but the Kings’ defense is quite erratic.

Thus, there’s no more ideal a selection than Timothe Luwawu.

If the draft shakes out in this manner, there’s a strong possibility that Sacramento trades down and accumulates assets. The Kings need a shooting guard who can space the floor and defend at a high level, and there aren’t many immediate value options at this point in the draft.

It’s also possible that Luwawu will be available a few spots lower.

The reality is, Luwawu is exactly what the Kings need at shooting guard. He’s an explosive athlete with elite defensive potential, an intriguing stroke from beyond the arc, and the court vision to fuel the offense as a facilitator.

This could be perceived as a reach, but Luwawu’s upside is immense, and his game fits Sacramento’s biggest of needs.
