A Golden Victory Over the Warriors

Denver had several chances to play the league-blazing Golden State Warriors, losing by double digits in the first two meetings in November.

The third meeting was very close. Will Barton and Denver came back ferociously after trailing by 24 after the first quarter, holding the Warriors’ superb offense to 12 fourth quarter points with a Barton layup sending the game to overtime. Barton had two chances to send it into a second overtime, but was short on two jump shots.

Eleven days later with nothing but pride to play for against Golden State and their 36-3 record, Denver was ready.

The Nuggets led 83-73 after the third quarter. The Warriors did what they do, getting hot from deep. Stephen Curry drained a three-pointer to cut the lead to two with just over 30 seconds left.

After botching a layup, Danilo Gallinari made the defensive play of the year, swiping the ball from Curry which eventually wrapped up a gargantuan upset victory for the Nuggets.

Gallo had 28 for the game and the Nuggets gave Golden State its fourth loss of an eventual league-low nine losses on the season. All in all, it was quite possibly one of the biggest regular season victories in the franchise’s 49 seasons.
