15. Al-Farouq Aminu

Al-Farouq Aminu‘s four-year, $30 million contract was one of the first deals of last summer and gave us an idea about how the NBA’s rising salary cap would inflate contracts, but make no mistake about it: he’s been living up to his deal regardless.

In his first season with the Portland Trail Blazers, Aminu is enjoying the breakout year he foreshadowed in last year’s strong playoff performance with the Dallas Mavericks. This year, Aminu is averaging 10.2 points and 6.2 rebounds per game while shooting 36 percent from three-point range.

Though Aminu is not much of a scorer, and though he’s still working on his consistency from three-point range, the defense that he and his massive wingspan bring to the table cannot be overlooked. Games like his 28-point, 6-for-11 shooting night from three-point range in a win over the Celtics suggest that he’s only going to get better as this Blazers team grows together.
