Analysis
Jaylen Brown’s draft stock is based almost entirely off of his physical abilities and upside. With a powerful build, a 7’0″ wingspan, and the type of athleticism that teams dream of along the wings, Brown could be a force at the next level.
The reality that all must embrace is that Brown isn’t ready to provide anything more than a physical presence at his current stage of development.
Brown’s jump shot is erratic, primarily due to his slow rise and release, and the way his legs kick out to awkwardly alter his momentum. He’s also irresponsible with the ball when driving the lane—something he tends to do no matter the resistance he faces at the rim.
Brown is something of a project player, but he’s essentially this year’s Stanley Johnson: a Top 10 prospect with immense potential on both ends and limited immediate value.
