Analysis
In previous eras, Juan Hernangomez would experience difficulty in moving from Liga ACB to the NBA. That isn’t due to his not being talented enough, but instead his being something of a tweener as a small forward in a power forward’s body.
In the era of small-ball and stretch 4s, Hernangomez has a chance to stand out amongst the pack.
Hernangomez is a solid athlete with a lethal jump shot and the necessary ability to make an impact on the offensive glass. His upside is somewhere along the lines of New Orleans Pelicans big man Ryan Anderson, albeit with the type of athleticism that’s enabled Nikola Mirotic to spot minutes at small forward.
Hernangomez must address his defensive consistency, specifically how much he gambles on that end, but he has an offensive game that fits the standards of the modern NBA.
