Shawn Marion fell short of being elected to the Hall of Fame in his first season of eligibility in 2015 and with a star-studded class of first-time eligibles in 2016, The Matrix may be on hold for awhile.

The ninth overall pick by the Phoenix Suns in 1999 out of UNLV, Marion’s funky looking jumper became a staple of the Seven Seconds or Less Suns of the mid-2000s.

He was a two-time All-NBA selection and averaged 18.4 points and 10.0 rebounds in 37.9 minutes per game in 660 games over parts of nine seasons in Phoenix.

He was later a key reserve for the Dallas Mavericks when they captured their first NBA title in 2011 and was a full-time starter until his age-35 season in Dallas.

He ended his career with a one-season stint with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2014-15, with brief stops with the Miami Heat and Toronto Raptors in between.

In 16 NBA seasons overall, he put up 15.2 points, 8.7 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 1.1 blocks in 34.5 minutes per game, shooting 48.4 percent overall and 81.0 percent from the line. Never a consistent 3-point shooter, he did hit 38.7 percent on a career-high 4.5 attempts per game in 2002-03.

Marion is 34th all-time with 40,097 minutes played and is 39th on the all-time rebounding list with 10,101.

He is 19th with 1,759 steals as well.
