Brice Johnson is Kevin Owens

Taking the long way to the top (if you want to rock and roll) is an admirable thing to do. It’s often a slow process, but once you reach the pinnacle, your moment becomes even sweeter.

That’s the case for both Brice Johnson and Kevin Owens. A fourth-year senior, Johnson has had to deal with the talk of the NCAA investigation involving things that occurred long before he arrived in Chapel Hill. He went from being too scrawny to have a major impact to using his athletic ability to become a first-team All-American.

Owens was a star on the independent wrestling circle for years before finally getting the call from the WWE. Less than a year after his debut, Owens gets set for WrestleMania in one of the most dangerous matches possible, a seven-man ladder match for his Intercontinental Championship.

What these two men have in common is their willingness to take on everybody and overcoming the odds. For Johnson, it was being too thin, too emotional to get anywhere with the Tar Heels. For Owens, he was too fat to be a star. Now both are headed into the biggest moments of their respective careers, continuing to overcome those around them saying they can’t make it.
