1. Detroit Pistons

With the Raptors’ record of 2-1 against the Pistons, they are the most desirable possible matchup for the first round.

What makes them a desirable matchup:

The Raptors’ lone loss against the Pistons came in a game where they rested Kyle Lowry. While Detroit does have the talent to give teams problems, there’s reason to believe that they would struggle in a playoff series against Toronto.

The two catalysts for their team are Reggie Jackson and Andre Drummond. Kyle Lowry is a very tough cover for Jackson and is also capable of making him work on both ends of the floor. While Drummond typically has huge games against Toronto, it rarely has resulted in team success.

His issues at the free throw line also make him a liability down the stretch and a target for intentional fouls. The Raptors are a far deeper team and shouldn’t have too much trouble with the Pistons if they meet in the playoffs.

What makes them dangerous:

As I mentioned above, Drummond has typically played like a monster against Toronto. While the Pistons may not be able to match up with the depth and versatility of Toronto, having a player that the other team is incapable of stopping is always a huge asset in a playoff series.

If the Raptors were to go cold from the floor or have to deal with injuries, he’s someone that might capitalize on an opportunity to make his mark in his playoff debut.
