Miami Hurricanes: Are They The Band Of Misfits Everyone Emulates?

Transfers have taken over the college basketball world. Every season the list of players leaving one program and going to another grows. This will become even more of a problem with the implementation of the cost of attendance stipends at certain Division I schools, since every athletic department has a varying rate of this extra benefit for student athletes.

Iowa State and Oregon have been two of the biggest proponents of using transfers to ease the recruiting process and Louisville joined them this season to replace the bulk of their roster from last season.

Miami has had their transfers for quite some time, but most of their key players came from other programs.

Three of the Hurricanes’ top six players came from other high-major programs before landing at Miami, including their starting backcourt.

Angel Rodriguez came from Kansas State, Sheldon McClellan from Texas and Kamari Murphy joined the team from Oklahoma State. All three have made successes of their transfers and all three could be poster children for the transfer movement.

Should Miami make it to the Final Four, every coach in the country looking to make a splash on the transfer circuit will simply have to point at the Hurricanes and say, “That could be us.”

Will the Hurricanes help the transfer market explode even more than it already?
