Maryland Terrapins: Will The Talent Finally Show Up?

Maryland was ranked very highly in the preseason for a reason. The roster they put together, with the returns of Melo Trimble and Jake Layman and the additions of Robert Carter, Rasheed Sulaimon and Diamond Stone, looked like a deadly starting five. On paper.

On the court, the story has been extremely hit and miss. There were just two games all season where the Terrapins looked like the talented juggernaut many expected, one of which was a loss at North Carolina.

Prior to the NCAA tournament, Maryland beat just four teams that made the tournament field, none of them convincingly, and looked sluggish and uninterested in most other games.

Talent is not an issue for the Terrapins, but getting that talent to all show up for a single game and work together has been.

Of course, when you have five players who can take charge and be the alpha dog can lead to clashing egos, except in Maryland’s case, it appears more that all five are more than willing to concede to somebody, usually all doing so at the same time.

Having talent and getting it to play together are two completely different things. Will that talent finally get put together? Or will the Terrapins write their own story about how they were one of the better teams to never get it together?
