16. Willis Reed, Meet Paul Pierce

With 6:48 to play in the third quarter in Game 1 of the 2008 NBA Finals against the Los Angeles Lakers, Paul Pierce was carried off the court then placed in a wheelchair. He had smashed his knee after colliding with teammate Kendrick Perkins.

For the full house inside Boston’s TD Garden, it appeared the series was over. Pierce would return a few moments later after treatment and quickly nail a pair of 3-pointers in just 22 seconds. The Celtics were off and running. They would win Game 1 and take the series in six.

Earlier in the 2008 postseason, Pierce and LeBron James had a battle for the ages in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals. Pierce scored 41 points. James topped him with 45 points. Of course, the Celtics would win, 97-92.
