Phoenix Suns, 2004-05
Record: 62-20
Lost in Western Conference Finals

The Phoenix Suns were the gold standard for today’s pace-and-space revolution and Steve Nash will always be the dream point guard that system was built around. Nash put up video game numbers for the Suns in 2004-05, averaging 15.5 points per game on shooting splits of .502/.431/.887, and added 11.5 assists per game.

The Suns sent three players to the All-Star Game–Nash, Amar’e Stoudamire and Shawn Marion–and took down more than their share of postseason awards. Nash was named NBA MVP, head coach Mike D’Antoni was named Coach of the Year and general manager Bryan Colangelo was named Executive of the Year.

While the Suns were fun in the regular season and first two rounds of the playoffs, winning 62 games during the regular season and losing just two games against the Memphis Grizzlies and Dallas Mavericks in the conference quarterfinal and semifinal, they ran into a superior foe in the Western Conference Finals in the form of the eventual NBA champion San Antonio Spurs, losing in five games.
