San Antonio Spurs, 2013-14
Record: 62-20
Won NBA championship

The San Antonio Spurs had an excellent regular season in 2013-14, winning 62 games, but they reached a peak in the NBA playoffs that few have ever neared. The Spurs took their devastating loss in the NBA Finals the previous year to the Miami Heat to heart and they evidently vowed to let no such thing happen again.

The Spurs played like a basketball work of art, moving the ball on a string and spinning Heat defenders into the ground at will. By the time the Spurs had taken a 2-1 lead on the road in Miami, the result was a foregone conclusion. The Spurs toyed with the Heat and never let them back into the series, defeating the two-time defending champions quickly in five games.

The Spurs featured unmatched balance and versatility, with eight players averaging nine points per game or more, and nobody averaging more than Tony Parker’s 16.7 points per game. They also didn’t have a single player averaging more than 29.4 minutes per game, and had eight players averaging 21.5 minutes or more.
