Los Angeles Lakers, 1986-87
Record: 65-17
Won NBA championship

The Los Angeles Lakers are one of the most legendary franchises in the history of the NBA, and possibly the best season they ever had was the 1986-87 season. It was the peak of the Showtime era, led by Magic Johnson, James Worthy, Byron Scott and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

The Lakers scored 115.6 points per 100 possessions that season, thanks in no small part to the efforts of Magic Johnson. Magic averaged 23.9 points and 12.2 assists that season and shot 52.2 percent from the floor, a tremendous percentage for a guard.

Johnson was named NBA MVP and Finals MVP on the strength of 26.2 points, 13 assists and eight rebounds per game in the six games of the Finals. He was also named to the All-NBA First Team.

The Lakers ran roughshod over the Western Conference playoffs, sweeping the Denver Nuggets in the first round, beating the Golden State Warriors in five games, sweeping the Seattle SuperSonics and beating the Boston Celtics in six games.
