Lost in Western Conference Finals

The Minnesota Timberwolves of 2003-04 were a showcase for Kevin Garnett at his peak. Garnett averaged 24.2 points, a league-leading 13.9 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 2.2 blocks per game, with a PER of 29.4 to go along with it.

The Timberwolves had the fifth-best offensive rating, the sixth-best defensive rating, and made a run to the Western Conference finals in what was the franchise’s last playoff appearance to date.

The Wolves beat the Denver Nuggets in five games, the Sacramento Kings in seven games, but ran into the Los Angeles Lakers of Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant in their last season together, and the Lakers defeated the Wolves in six games.

Garnett was named NBA MVP, made the All-Star Game and was named to the All-NBA First Team. In addition, guard Sam Cassell was named to the All-NBA Second Team on the strength of 19.8 points and 7.3 assists per game on shooting splits of .488/.398/.873.
