20. Good Mourning, Vince Carter

The faction of fans who disagree about Vince Carter being the greatest in-game dunker of all-time is small. Not much is objective in the world of professional sports, but this opinion is as close to factual as one will find amongst an NBA community which often seems paid to disagree.

As far as NBA games are concerned, one of Carter’s masterpieces was this poster dunk against all-time defensive anchor Alonzo Mourning.

Carter turned a contested shot at the rim into a dunk that would’ve received a high score at the Slam Dunk Contest. He absorbed the contact, cocked the ball back, and threw it down with the type of ferocity that helped Carter achieve his current stature in the dunk world.

Considering this is one of his many appearances on this list, it’s safe to say Carter has earned his distinction as the best dunk artist ever.

Mourning defended the dunk as well as one could’ve asked him to, maintaining a vertical base and contesting it without fouling. Carter was simply too explosive, maintaining his elevation through the contact and throwing it down from well behind his head.

A vast majority of current and former NBA players can and could dunk, but no one made it look as easy as Carter.
