14. Shaq Drives the Lane

When the only call an announcer can give is, “Oh,” you know that there’s a brutal dunk that preceded it. This fits the bill, as Shaquille O’Neal showed off his agility as he drove the lane, attacked the rack, and brutalized both Kelvin Cato and the rim.

O’Neal has a full catalog of powerful dunks and posters that are tough to look at, but this one stands out for a very simple reason.

It’s known how big O’Neal is and was, but this dunk manages puts his gargantuan build into perspective. One can only imagine the fear that existed in Cato’s mind as he watched a 7’2″ and 325-pound Goliath storm the lane and crash into him at full speed.

If ever it were appropriate to comment with the aggravatingly cliche, “That’s going to leave a mark,” this would be the play to use it on.

The screaming of the word, “Oh,” was echoed by the thousands of fan in attendance who jumped to their feet and screamed in approval. O’Neal’s teammates, namely Nick Van Exel, were just as fired up as the announcers, and O’Neal shared the fire.

O’Neal has done some spectacular things over the course of his storied NBA career, and this one ranks amongst the very best as far as individual plays go.
