16. Vince Carter Dunks Over Tim Duncan

If you’re going to make a statement, you might as well aim for the stars. That’s exactly what then Toronto Raptors swingman Vince Carter did when he attacked the teeth of the San Antonio Spurs’ defense and went over Tim Duncan for yet another highlight reel finish.

There’s no better way to instill fear in opposing defenses than to obliterate the man who, at the time, was pegged by many as the next best big man in the world.

Duncan, somehow, never won a Defensive Player of the Year award, but he is widely regarded as one of the best defensive players of all-time. He’s made 15 All-Defensive Team appearances, including eight on the First Team, which is evidence enough of his greatness.

Carter didn’t seem to care about any of the accolades that had been accumulated, or those that were soon to come.

Carter has a tendency to jump up and over players who stand at or near 7’0″, as a future dunk on this list will show. This one was just plain vicious, as Carter clipped Duncan with his thigh as he rose up for a ridiculous dunk in traffic.

To catch the 6’11” Duncan with a dunk like this requires skill, body control, and pure explosiveness. Carter had all of the above.
