2016 NBA Rookie Ladder: Is Devin Booker A Star?
4. Jahlil Okafor, Philadelphia 76ers
Jahlil Okafor is out for the rest of the season after having season-ending surgery, but that doesn’t mean he deserves to slide past No. 4 in these rankings.
Throughout the year Okafor did nothing but put the ball in the basket down low. His scoring numbers are second among rookies only to Karl-Anthony Towns and his percentages both from the field and free throw line increased as the year progressed. He even flashed a mid-range jumper a la Tim Duncan over the last month or so before getting injured.
As he gets in better shape he has the tools of a dominating offensive force down low, but to excel as one of the NBA’s best players he has to become a better rebounder and defender in the low post. If he doesn’t improve much in those areas then his destiny is Brook Lopez 2.0.
