Analysis

Malcolm Brogdon’s performance in the Round of 32 was one of the most important of his storied collegiate career. He helped the Virginia Cavaliers reach the Sweet 16 for just the second time since 1995, and took over the game without the successful use of the 3-point shot.

Already established as a potential 3-and-D asset in the NBA, Brogdon proved that he can still get his shot off from inside the arc.

Brogdon scored 22 points on 2-point field goals and free throws alone. He played a significant hand in Virginia locking down the Butler Bulldogs’ sharpshooting star player Kellen Dunham, as well, which further speaks to Brogdon’s NBA potential.

While most are capable of scoring and playing solid defense, Brogdon proved, once again, that he can help anchor Virginia’s defensive perimeter and lead the charge offensively.

Brogdon has the physical gifts to excel in the NBA at just under 6’6″ and 220 pounds with a 6’10” wingspan, and the quickness to come off of screens and find openings. He’s also crafty enough with his handle to attack in the halfcourt, and that much was reenforced against Butler.

Brogdon could be a Wesley Matthews type of contributor at the next level, and the deeper Virginia goes, the better his draft stock will look.
