Analysis

The Saint Joseph’s Hawks have a strong history of producing NBA players, and DeAndre Bembry is pegged by many as the next in line. Widely regarded as a Top 40 prospect, Bembry is one of the most skilled wing players in this draft class.

Against the Cincinnati Bears, Bembry played the type of game that scouts have been waiting to see from him.

Bembry’s jump shot has faltered in 2015-16, but he returned to the form that helped put him on the radar against Cincinnati. He played all 40 minutes, scoring 25 points on 9-of-15 shooting from the field with marks of 3-of-5 from beyond the arc and 4-of-5 from the free throw line.

Bembry has struggled all season with his jump shot, but on the biggest of stages, he found his stroke and lifted Saint Joseph’s to victory.

Bembry’s greatest strength is his ability to create, as he can both attack in isolation and facilitate the offense. His five assists, including one on what proved to be the game-winning 3-point field goal, exemplified that versatility and how significant it can be.

Bembry is a Top 40 prospect, and he has a chance to break into the Top 30 with another shining performance against the No. 1 seed Oregon Ducks in the Round of 32.
