Analysis

Sheldon McClellan has an opportunity to turn heads and make a significant rise up draft boards during the 2016 NCAA Tournament. The Miami Hurricanes are a No. 3 seed, and McClellan is the player who can help the team reach the Elite Eight.

If he thrives individually while doing so, the Hurricanes’ resident sharpshooting swingman would all but guarantee his being drafted in 2016.

McClellan outside shot wasn’t falling as often as it had been in prior months, which placed his ability to create under the spotlight. He rose to the occasion, attacking the rack and drawing fouls at a rate that helped Miami hold on for the victory.

With 13 free throw attempts, the athletic Miami star reminded the opposition that he’s more than just another player who can spot up; he can create, as well.

McClelallan age is a bit of a red flag, as he’ll turn 24 before the 2016-17 NBA regular season even begins. He clearly has the athleticism, though, and that could be realized by the way he constantly blew past Buffalo defenders.

NBA-caliber talent is scarce on Miami’s side of the South Region, but McClellan can still make a statement as soon as the Round of 32 against the Wichita State Shockers begins.
