Kansas Jayhawks shooting guard Wayne Selden Jr. is the J.R. Smith of the 2016 NBA Draft. When he’s found his rhythm, both athletically and as a shooter, there isn’t a single player in the country who can prevent him from putting points on the board.

Baylor Bears guard Ishmail Wainwright learned that the hard way.

Unfortunately, Selden is also the type of player who can shoot his team out of games. Selden shot 34.0 percent from beyond the arc during conference play, and converted 49.3 percent in all other outings—a telling sign of how quickly he can go from elite to average.

Nevertheless, the upside is far too tremendous to overlook or ignore. Selden is an explosive athlete with an NBA build and an elite shooting stroke, and while he may play out of control, landing in the right NBA system could help him channel his focus and tame his erratic nature.

Selden is your proverbial boom or bust prospect, but the boom is quite tremendous.
