Avery Johnson

Denver Nuggets, San Antonio Spurs, Houston Rockets, Golden State Warriors (1990-1999)

At 5-foot-10, Avery Johnson would do no good in today’s NBA. There have been many small guards to make their impact on this league, but Johnson wouldn’t be one of these players. Boston Celtics point guard Isaiah Thomas, for example, made the All-Star Game this year and has turned his small frame into a great career.

The difference that sets Johnson and Thomas apart is the fact that Thomas can shoot well from behind the three point line–36 percent for Thomas for his career compared to 15 percent for Johnson. It’s not only three-point shooting, Johnson wouldn’t be tough enough or quick enough to stay with the point guards in today’s NBA.
