Ramon Sessions shines as a positive for the Washington Wizards after a negative West Coast trip.

Running through the West with their woes, the Washington Wizards (30-35) showed no fight, grit or sense of urgency to start making a run towards that final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. They have now lost five straight games. To say it was embarrassing would be an understatement.

However, if there was one silver lining to their road trip, it was the play of one of their guards, and I’m not talking about John Wall.

From my take, Wall was not nearly aggressive as he should’ve been against his Western foes. I especially saw him outmatched against Damian Lillard last Tuesday against the Portland Trail Blazers. Lillard scored 41 points and dished out 11 assists. Wall also had a double-double, but shot an abysmal 8-for-25 from the field. Not a winning recipe for success.

His running mate, Ramon Sessions, was a bright spot and earned this week’s Washington Wizards WizKid honors.

Sessions averaged 12 points and three assists during the three-game stretch. On Tuesday, Sessions came alive off the bench for 21 points , four rebounds and five assists. Although they didn’t win, Sessions definitely helped Wall in the backcourt in Bradley Beal‘s absence. Sessions was also efficient, shooting 9-for-12 from the field.

Against the Utah Jazz, his numbers dipped off, but impact was still there. Sessions contributed 10 points and four rebounds off the bench, more than Alan Anderson and newly acquired Marcus Thornton combined. In addition, the game was lost in the rebounding department (42-29), according to NBA.com.

The last game against the Denver Nuggets was a game not to be remembered. Sessions only had six points off the bench and the Wizards as a team looked like they were mentally over the road trip they were on. The Wizards squandered an 11-point lead during the third quarter and never got it back.

Not much to brag about with this team with the way they’re playing during the last few games.

“€œWe played like we’€™re already in the playoffs, not having to fight and claw, scratch, bite to do everything you can to win a game,€” said forward Jared Dudley, according to Jorge Castillo of the Washington Post.

And to make matters worse, they’re playing against the Detroit Pistons (34-32), who hold the last playoff spot in the East. But some players deserve credit for the heart they show on the team. And Sessions is one of them. Hopefully he can instill more heart into the Wizards Monday night and for the games to come.
