Analysis
Point guards are the new craze in the NBA, and there aren’t many better on the collegiate front than Maryland Terrapins star Melo Trimble. The 21-year-old has emerged as a versatile scorer with a fearsome jump shot, respected court vision, and an uncanny ability to make plays during late-game situations.
Trimble may slip on draft night due to an especially deep class of point guards, but he has a genuinely promising future in the NBA.
Trimble has regressed as a scorer and shooter, improved significantly as a facilitator, and committed more energy to playing defense. He has good size for the point guard position at 6’3″, gets to the rim at will, and appears comfortable as a pick-and-roll playmaker.
There’s no definitive answer for how good of a player Trimble will be, but he can provide a similar impact to longtime NBA player Darren Collison.
Trimble can shoot the lights out when his feet are set, and that makes him an immediate option for the NBA. He can also create off the bounce and facilitate, and while his wingspan is somewhat short, his size and strength are on the plus side.
Trimble carries himself like a star in college, and that swagger will intrigue a general manager enough to draft him this coming June.
