Analysis

Anadolu Efes wing Furkan Korkmaz is the Mario Hezonja of the 2016 NBA Draft. He’s an explosive European shooting guard who has the potential to play the 3, the shooting range to thrive in the Association, and the upside to intrigue even the most jaded of scouts.

Korkmaz isn’t even close to being ready to play a high volume of minutes in the NBA, but he has the athletic ability and shooting touch to develop into a high-caliber player.

Korkmaz has a dream of competing in the NBA Slam Dunk Contest, and that’s evidence enough of how athletic he is. He’ll win over fans with his ability to play above the rim, and has the range to accommodate the infatuation with the 3-point shot.

With the size and athleticism to excel in the NBA, Korkmaz’s success is dependent solely upon his work ethic.

Korkmaz’s ball-handling and defensive consistency are areas that must be addressed. He can contribute as a 3-point specialist who can erupt in transition, which earns a Terrence Ross comparison, but Korkmaz’s ceiling is clearly star-caliber.

Shooters now receive a high enough volume of attempts from beyond the arc to be stars, and Korkmaz’s athleticism is the perfect complement to his stroke.
