Analysis
Watching Notre Dame Fighting Irish point guard Demetrius Jackson is similar to watching Damian Lillard. With comparable athleticism, fearlessness as a jump shooter, and the undying desire to make the big play, Jackson has genuine star potential.
There’s reason to be skeptical of Jackson as a prospect, but he should at least thrive as a sixth man at the next level.
Jackson’s raw athleticism puts him on par with some of the more explosive point guards in the NBA. His skill set hasn’t quite reached theirs, but he’s a solid shooter who sees the floor well and finishes in traffic.
Whether he has to go over or get around length, Jackson knows how to put points on the board when the odds are against him.
Jackson has struggled, at times, to balance defensive commitment and his massive offensive role. The desired improvement will come by playing for the right coach at the next level, which makes the place he’s selected in the 2016 NBA Draft something to watch and monitor.
If Jackson lands in the right situation, he can be a genuine impact player for an NBA organization.
