10 Reasons The Spurs Would Beat The Warriors In A Series
3. Added Depth
Wednesday it was announced that the Spurs signed Kevin Martin after waiving Rasual Butler. Losing Butler is definitely a hit to the bench veteran leadership, but the Spurs have plenty of that to go around. Instead, they sign Martin, an 11-year veteran who will be able to come off the bench as a dependable shooter from outside.
Martin has a career three-point percentage of 38.5, but has seen a cut in minutes as the Timberwolves’ wave of youth has come to the forefront. His average of 10.2 points per game doesn’t jump out at you, but he is another dependable weapon that Popovich will use especially during stretches in the playoffs.
The Spurs also signed Andre Miller during the last week of February after being waived by the Timberwolves. The 39-year-old will play spot minutes in the third point guard role, but he took advantage of playing time last night against his former team with Tony Parker sitting out. Miller finished with 13 points, five assists, and two rebounds in 25 minutes in the win.
These aren’t players who will change your lives, but it is added depth to the Spurs roster to help counteract Golden State’s. The Warriors hands down have the deepest team in the league, so quality additions from the Spurs help even the playing field.
