NBA: 20 Players Turning Their Seasons Around
13. Doug McDermott
When the Chicago Bulls traded two first round draft picks to move up in the 2014 NBA Draft and select Doug McDermott, they were probably expecting a little bit more than the 3.0 points in 8.9 minutes per game he posted as a rookie. But now that Fred Hoiberg has given him an extended opportunity in this injury-depleted lineup, Dougie Fresh is starting to deliver.
He’s averaging a vastly improved 9.2 points in 22.9 minutes per game this season, improving his field goal percentage from 40.2 percent last year to 45.2 percent this year. He’s also dramatically improved his three-point shooting from 31.7 percent as a rookie to 42.6 percent this season.
Throw in his 14.2 points per game on .507/.392/.917 shooting splits since the start of February, plus his career-high 30-point performance against the Toronto Raptors that provided Chicago with a big home win, and it’s clear that McBuckets is starting to live up to his many nicknames.
