1. New York Knicks

Though Lawson would probably prefer to bolster the rotation of a playoff contender, beggars can’t be choosers, and the New York Knicks could represent the fresh start he was hoping for when he was originally traded to the Rockets. The Knicks are starved for a point guard that isn’t Jose Calderon, rookie Jerian Grant or Jimmer Fredette; why not take a temporary flyer on Lawson?

The Knicks aren’t going to make the playoffs this season, but they’ll have a ton of cap space to play around with this summer. There are going to be better options available to fill that point guard gap in free agency, including Mike Conley, Rajon Rondo and Brandon Jennings (not to mention Russell Westbrook next summer).

But throwing money at those big names might not be enough to lure them to the Big Apple, and settling on Lawson wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world if he’s capable of re-establishing himself as one of the NBA’s premier distributors.

Carmelo Anthony and Kristaps Porzingis would certainly benefit from the good looks he’s capable of creating, and with his value so low across the league, it might not cost as much to re-sign him this summer if he impressed during his trial period in New York.
