4. Detroit Pistons

The Detroit Pistons had a productive trade deadline, bringing in Tobias Harris for backup point guard Brandon Jennings and Ersan Ilyasova, and then dealing a first round pick for Donatas Motiejunas in a trade that wound up being rescinded. But even with Jennings failing to live up to his pre-Achilles tear play, his absence has given way too much responsibility back to Steve Blake.

The Pistons are 2-2 since the deadline, keeping with their .500 record through the first 58 games of the season. But if Stan Van Gundy wants to give his team an added punch to break into the East’s top eight, this is one move he can consider.

Lawson has not shot the ball well from distance over the last few years, but he’s a career 36.6 percent shooter from three-point range and would give the team a superior option at the backup point guard spot. However, Lawson comes with some baggage and a battered reputation, which doesn’t strike me as a move SVG would be interested in considering his firsthand experience with off-court distractions (*cough Dwight Howard cough*).
