Joe Johnson buyout lands him in Beantown?

How ironic. After the Nets gave the Boston Celtics their future in the failed Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett endeavor, it’s the Celtics who could ultimately wind up employing Johnson on a competitive team.

Johnson to Boston makes sense, he stays in the East, and he will be on a team that should have some level of home-court advantage in the postseason. For those who don’t remember, Johnson started his career with the Celtics. Boston drafted Johnson 10th overall way back in 2001, though they traded him to the Phoenix Suns midseason.

Here’s the problem with Boston. The Celtics have a lot of young players already worked into the rotation. How many minutes will be made available to Johnson amongst Isaiah Thomas, Marcus Smart, Avery Bradley, Evan Turner and Jae Crowder?

The Celtics may also be overachievers for the second straight season. While they are having a terrific season are they truly contenders?
