After waiving David Lee, the Boston Celtics now find themselves with one open roster spot, and a few different directions in which they could go with it.

Lee, now with the Dallas Mavericks, was a fantastic veteran presence in the Cs’ locker room, and his unwavering professionalism and leadership, despite being cut out of the rotation entirely, certainly had a positive impact on this Celtics team.

But while veteran leadership is key in the NBA, especially for a  young team like Boston, production is what matters in the end, and Lee — despite his $15 million salary — was a complete non-factor for Boston by the first of the new year.

So now, with Lee’s former spot vacant, Boston has the option of signing one of the countless available free agents — some names certainly bigger than others — still up for grabs.

Head coach Brad Stevens doesn’t feel it’s absolutely necessary to fill the void, but he did admit that the Celtics were still looking towards the market in an effort to increase versatility and shooting (per the Boston Herald):

"“I think that we’ll continue to look for versatility and we’ll continue to look for shooting if the right people become available, if we feel like it’s a great fit for our team or if we need them based on injuries or whatever the case may be,” the Celtics coach said before tonight’s game against the Timberwolves. “We haven’t had any discussions about anybody, and the bottom line is we’re in no rush to add.”"

With the buyouts plentiful this year and a few other niche-players still unsigned, the Celtics have a decent selection of talent, should they decide to round out their 15-man group. So with that, here are five potential candidates for the Boston Celtics’ final spot.
